The Alifu Atoll is located to the west of the 'Kaafu Atoll'. The administration of the North Ari Atoll includes 3 geographical atolls, namely, the Ari Atoll, Rasdhoo Atoll and the Thoddoo Atoll. Only 18 islands are inhabited, while the rest lie unexploited and untouched in all their pristine beauty.

Alifu was the second zone to venture into the tourism industry. At present, there are 27 resorts providing accommodation and other services to tourists in the atoll. The numerous diving sites attract a lot of professional as well as novice divers and other vacationers.
