The second country in the world to start on golf, India holds a distinguished place in the history of Golf (Great Britain was the first). India took its first foothold in the field of Golf in 1829, when India's first golf club, the Royal Calcutta Golf club was established. The first golf club to be established outside Great Britain, it was conferred the title "Royal" when King George V and Queen Mary visited Calcutta in 1911.
